I must say, of all the cyber places you could have ended up, i’m certainly glad you chose to be here. Viewing my site is best accompanied by your choice of beverage; i recommend sweet tea, hazelnut macchiato, or prosecco. That, and 80's music, preferably from the breakfast club soundtrack.

Accessing Available Light | Stepping Out Of Your Comfort Zone | First-Year Friday | Nikki Santerre Photography

January 18, 2013

I was utterly terrified to do last Friday’s session, for more reasons than one.

First of all, the model was my little sister. If you know anything about Jen, it’s that she’s incredibly gorgeous. Of course, she doesn’t always see herself in the same light. So I was nervous about the final product, how she would view them, and if she would approve.

The second thing I feared was the light. You see, as a natural light photographer, I choose to utilize the available natural light so my images are soft, flattering, and don’t have harsh lines and shadows. The venue we chose for this session, the Jasmine Plantation, is one of my favorite venues to photograph. It is near and dear to my heart because it’s where we got married (if you haven’t seen my posts about Jasmine, you can view them here and here).

This was my first session everΒ that was strictly indoors.

And it was AMAZING!

A session like this is ONLY possible if the location has lots of windows to allow for natural light to pour in and saturate the room. Jasmine’s bridal suite was perfect, especially the bathroom. The light flowed in from a side window, drenching Jen in the above (stinkin’ gorgeous!) images.

This was not anything like my typical session, but it allowed me to push myself and think creatively. I am so happy with the finished product!

Sisterfriend: You are insanely beautiful. I hope these images help you to see yourself that way, because that was my entire goal for this shoot. I love you more than words. Thanks for being my best friend. I wouldn’t be who I am without you!
