I must say, of all the cyber places you could have ended up, i’m certainly glad you chose to be here. Viewing my site is best accompanied by your choice of beverage; i recommend sweet tea, hazelnut macchiato, or prosecco. That, and 80's music, preferably from the breakfast club soundtrack.

Perspective: Day of Wedding Coordinator

July 10, 2014

Last night, I had the honor of having dinner with my sweet friend, Kat, of Dear Sweetheart Events.  Over some good old fashioned southern cookin’, we discussed the wedding industry, marriage, and our businesses. It was awesome to talk to someone who is involved in the wedding industry, just in a different capacity than I am, and it was great to hear her perspective on how she serves her clients through coordinating their weddings. After our conversation last night, I really started thinking about the importance of hiring a professional wedding coordinator, even just to cover the day of your event.

When Matt and I got married two years ago, I didn’t know half about the wedding industry that I know now. We knew the aspects of the day that were important enough to invest in, and , like most couples, chose to eliminate things we thought were less important.

My Mama was really hands-on in our wedding planning. She finds joy in planning and hosting grand and celebratory life events, so of course she wanted to be in charge of the decor design and details for our day. While she did a FABULOUS job planning and executing everything to make our day perfect (seriously, she could plan events for a living), she had to work so hard the night before and the day of our wedding to ensure everything was set up correctly. She’s probably not going to be happy I’m posting this publicly, but I didn’t find out until after the wedding that she was up until FOUR AM the day of the wedding getting our reception decor set up. On a day as important as her daughter’s wedding, my Mama didn’t get to sleep the night before, or enjoy time with me as I was getting ready because she was running around making sure everything was taken care of. If I could go back and change just one thing about our wedding day, I would have hired a day of coordinator to take care of those things so I could spend that time with my Mama. So she could be there with me and my bridesmaids while we were singing, dancing, drinking champagne, and getting dolled up for our grand entrance down the aisle. We did have a few special moments that were captured of us while I was getting ready, and for that I’m thankful, but we had to steal her away in between her busyness to get those.

As a photographer, I have loved the wedding days where my brides have invested in day of coordination because my brides are really able to sit back and enjoy their wedding day as it unfolds rather than worrying if the centerpieces are placed on the correct table. There is also a point of contact available for all vendors involved in the wedding day, so if anyone has questions regarding the timeline or other details, the bride and groom and their families don’t have to be bothered. There is also something to be said about having an outside party to be in charge of directing everyone on the wedding day to where they need to be. Having someone else handle the organization of the day keeps things moving smoothly, meaning everyone else can focus on enjoying the wedding day and celebrating the couple.

Special thanks to Kat of DSE for her insight and Charlotte of Charlotte Jarratt Events for providing some awesome day of coordination for Maggie & Brian’s wedding last month! She was a rockstar that day and really showed me the value of investing in a professional!

Your Mama is the BEST! Paying attention to EVERY little detail. And, she would not have been anymore relaxed regardless. She wanted everything perfect for your day (and it was!) That is what Mama’s (and aunts) do for the ones we love and cherish!!!!
