I must say, of all the cyber places you could have ended up, i’m certainly glad you chose to be here. Viewing my site is best accompanied by your choice of beverage; i recommend sweet tea, hazelnut macchiato, or prosecco. That, and 80's music, preferably from the breakfast club soundtrack.

The Good Things & The Hard Things

May 30, 2014

The struggle is real, for every single one of us. And the truth is, we’re all in this together.

I knew I wanted to start a personal series, and have been doing some soul searching as to what I wanted this content to include. I have done an Instagram review, shared about our wedding, but I just wasn’t sure what to write about to create some consistency. I knew I wanted these posts to help me relate to my beloved readers, but I also wanted there to be a purpose and that was to help me stay on track with a regular blogging schedule.

Enter The Good Things and The Hard Things, y’all.

When I was at JMU, I participated in weekly bible study with some of my sorority sisters in our house basement. It was my favorite time of the week, being close to some of my favorite girls in a safe environment where we could share our hearts. My favorite part of these discussions was when each of us shared our “Roses and Thorns” for the week. We talked about each other’s highest highs and lowest lows for the week.

My friends, that’s what we’re going to do here. Every week, I’m going to let y’all in on my heart. I’m going to share my joy, and trust you with some hard things too. And I want you to share too if you’d like. I will be here to celebrate with you and pray for you as well.

The Hard Things:

-Starting the transition out of my classroom. I know this is supposed to be an exciting time, but it’s still tough to leave my family and my littles who I have grown to love very much this year.

-Balancing work and home. This is a struggle I’m continuing to work on. Matt and I actually watched a movie together on a weeknight this week…PRAISE!

-Never being caught up on housework, even though I feel like I’m. Always. Cleaning. Something.

-Preparing to say goodbye to my little sister as her move approaches. I am thankful she will still be within driving distance, but we’ve never been this far apart and it will be an adjustment.

-Helplessly watching people you love going through a difficult time and knowing there isn’t much you can do to help. That is one of the toughest of hard things, y’all.

The Good Things:

-Starting our first garden! It’s amazing what planting a few small buds into the ground can do for the soul! We felt like a true “old married couple” strolling through the lawn and garden section of Lowes and selecting our “crops.” I can’t wait to harvest some squash!

-Sharing my favorite praise song with two people who had never heard it before. Seeing their faces as they listened to the words was incredible. God is good all the time, y’all!

-We received a huge honor for the business this week! I will share more about this later. Just to give you a hint about how good this news was, champagne was served for dinner that night. 😉

-Spending time on the water this past weekend and seeing both our families. In the middle of a very busy season, I was so thankful for a slow-down.

-Finishing a book. I read The Fault in Our Stars this past weekend. Oh my goodness, I cried, y’all! Read it, it’s so good!

“Do you know, what Dom Perignon said after inventing champagne?…
He called out to his fellow monks,
‘Come quickly: I am tasting the stars'”
-The Fault in Our Stars

How are you this week? I’d love to hear about your Good Thing and your Hard Thing. Happy weekend, y’all!

I love that you’re calling it “hard times”, not “bad times”, or something similar. We tend to call hard times bad or equate them with negativity…sometimes the best things come for the hardest moments or seasons!
