I must say, of all the cyber places you could have ended up, i’m certainly glad you chose to be here. Viewing my site is best accompanied by your choice of beverage; i recommend sweet tea, hazelnut macchiato, or prosecco. That, and 80's music, preferably from the breakfast club soundtrack.

“I only want five things,

five chosen roots.

One is an endless love.

Two is to see the autumn.

I cannot exist without leaves

flying and falling to Earth.”

Oh, Pablo Neruda. Surely you were writing to me when these words of yours met paper.

One of the truest statements anyone could ever say about me is that I love autumn.

I love the smells. I love the foliage. I love the traditions. I long for cooler days, for sweater-weather, for mulled wine and meals that warm our chilled bones over even warmer conversation.

I’ve pondered recently why I love this season, why my heart yearns for it for the duration of the 9 months of the year when autumn isn’t present. The conclusion I’ve drawn is I love that it’s a season of preparation. The season ends with the culminating event, the coming of Christmas.

Ugh, why hasn’t this lightbulb gone off in my head before?! It’s like this season is a metaphor for our lives!

From the book of Luke:”4 As is written in the book of the words of Isaiah the prophet: “A voice of one calling in the desert, ‘Prepare the way for the Lord, make straight paths for him. 5 Every valley shall be filled in, every mountain and hill made low. The crooked roads shall become straight, the rough ways smooth. 6And all mankind will see God’s salvation.’ ”

And from Isaiah: “For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”

And so, in a season of preparation, a season of joy. A season of thanksgiving. A season of peace, it is my truest hope to leave room for margin. To leave room for people. To leave room and make time for The Word. To make more memories than to-do lists.

To live. And to love.

Because, especially in this season, that’s really all you need.
