The Morning After
The weightlessness surprised her.
Completely taken aback, she glanced down at her left ring finger,
almost convinced the band had slipped off in her sleep.
Yet, still, there it was. All the reminder she needed that the day
before wasn’t a dream (as if waking up next to him wasn’t enough).
A soft rain drenched the screen between their new world and the
outside. Morning light fought through the sheer curtains to share
with them in the sacredness of their marriage bed.
Marriage. It happened. They wed.
The gossamer material of her gown on the restored hardwood floors
glistened. She sighed. It happened so quickly, their wedding day.
The months of planning. The preparation. The anticipation. And now,
it was over.
He stirred, as he does when he feels her distance between the linen
sheets. His grey eyes flickered open, a smile pulling the corner of
his lips.
“Morning Mrs.”
She melted into him at the sound of this. The same voice who
beckoned her to adventure. The same voice who could calm any of her
cares. The same voice who pledged his Forever to her less than
twenty-four hours before.
She was eager to see who she would become while building a life
alongside the man, she now called “Husband.”
It seemed as if they had a lifetime of history together. Yet,
somehow, they were only just beginning.
