There is an air of intimacy that can’t be replicated quite like when a couple is within a space of familiarity. It is within the seemingly mundane moments at home that we live out our lives with one another. So, it only makes sense to consider this as a possibility when choosing locations for your engagement session. Certainly, especially in Virginia, there are a plethora of options for venues with historical context, stunning views, elegant architecture. However, if it is an option to have your engagement session either at home, or at a venue, like The Retreat at Cool Spring (pictured here) that emulates a cozy and intimate aesthetic, I highly recommend it!  .                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                               

•  A lifestyle engagement session at home helps you to document activities you would normally complete together, like making breakfast, listening to records, or playing your favorite board game. Sure, confetti poppers and gold lettered balloons are pretty and fun, but they aren’t necessarily an honest and accurate reflection of your relationship.

•  Scheduling your session at home or at an indoor venue prohibits the need to be concerned about weather. As long as there is at least one room with adequate light, indoors is a great option no matter what season your session.

• Photographing in an intimate environment where you are comfortable ultimately means to more opportunities for candid, less forced posing.

•  Want an outfit change? No problem! These sessions allow for comfort and conveniences not always afforded during on location shoots, like private rooms and bathrooms (not that I haven’t also encouraged clients that “it’s totally fine to change in the car if we have to!”).
