I want to preface this post with a heartfelt “Thank You” to Hannah Brencher for inspiring me to be brave enough to listen to the voice in my heart leading my life and my business down an unconventional path. Big changes are coming, y’all. If you’re a creative who has been considering professional creative coaching, I more than recommend Hannah, I insist that if you don’t you will be missing out on one of the greatest conversations of your life with a girl who has turned verbalizing the emotions of the soul into an art.Ā
There’s a distinct difference between stale, grocery store clearance pound cake and the “homemade with love” cake your grandmother would bake you from scratch on special occasions like your birthday.
They both contain similar ingredients, both recipes probably call for egg, flour, water. Both recipes ultimately produce a cake. The difference is the one made by your sweet Nanny in the heart of her country kitchen was probably from a family recipe handed down for generations. It was prepared over time with special care and love. And I guarantee your grandmother put in a special ingredient that she “forgets” to share when she gives the recipe to a neighbor. Something that makes it unique, so you only crave this cake if your Nanny is the one who baked it. That delicious, secret, melt-in-your-mouth something.
Likewise, in the world of small business owners, there’s a recipe for success, one that looks different for each of us. Sure, for us photographers, each of us owns a camera. We all use similar editing software, share our images on blogs and social media, but it’s the unique experience we offer our clients by working with us specifically that sets us apart as industry professionals.
Let me tell you something, y’all. I WANT TO BE NUTMEG!Ā
I’m taking my copy of the rule book and tossing it out the window, on the side of some country road while I blast Florence and the Machine at the top of my lungs. Because what works for you may not work for me. And vice-versa.
I want to love with abandon and give more than most are willing and create a legacy based on those things that make my heart sing. That’s what I know in my heart I’m being called to do. So some changes are coming, and I’m not quite sure what it’s going to look like yet, but I know when they arrive, they’re going to be amazing!
